Rituals

Rituals and ceremonies are as old as mankind, they stem from the longing to mark special moments and connections. Rituals are consciously designed actions with a symbolic meaning. These meaningful actions create a moment outside of ordinary life: a ritual slows down, it’s infused with attention. The language of rituals speaks strongly to the right hemisphere of our brain, the area involved with emotions, imagination, intuition, colour, music and rhythm, among other things. This allows you to experience it on a deeper layer, in your entire system: with head, heart and body. Another important aspect is that you are able to act (symbolically) during a ritual, while in daily reality you may not have had the opportunity to do so.

A warm welcome to my website. I design and guide bespoke rituals, for individuals as well as groups. Rituals that help to celebrate, to commemorate, to mourn, to make new beginnings or mark a significant life transition.

Moments that a ritual can mark or support

A union such as a marriage or moving in together, leaving home as a young adult, a special voyage, menopause, pregnancy, birth, an unfulfilled desire to have children, illness, saying goodbye (to a loved one, to a healthy body, to life), mourning, relocation, divorce, the union of a blended family, retirement, a renewed relationship with children or with parent(s)/caretaker(s), the transition from primary school to secondary school, a new job or workplace, commemoration, eco-mourning (the emotions around the loss of biodiversity and the climate crisis), honouring a special relationship, place or person.

What a ritual can gift you with

  • A sense of belonging

  • Supporting life changes and transitions

  • Consolation

  • A discharge, that creates space for something new

  • A sense of meaning

  • Joy

  • Living more consciously

  • Strengthening of relationships, with yourself and others

  • Empowerment

  • Pausing and reflecting, not only through the mind, but with your whole system

  • Connecting to your creativity – literally as in ‘the ability to create’, but also much broader as in ‘creativity in living’ and resilience: how you deal with what life throws at you

I pour my heart and creativity into all my designs, hoping that your personal ritual will feel like a special present. A present that invites you to let yourself be carried away and temporarily let go (a little) of the familiar, to a place where there may be wonder, or recognition, or stillness, or…? Where anything is allowed to be felt, joy and sorrow. Where it is okay not to know ‘things’ yet or to roar with laughter.

‘Very nice set-up, in which the senses play a major role. It invites touching, participation, curiosity, tasting, talking, messing around, and so on.’

‘It feels like a gift to receive a bespoke ritual, created especially for you.’

‘The ritual with Renske did me a lot of good! The theme, saying goodbye to heaviness, was not new to me and I have worked on it in different ways over the past few years. The ritual was the crowning glory of that work.’
